New principal scientist expands capabilities in epidemiology and real-world evidence
We are pleased to announce that Kate Lapane, Ph.D., has joined the firm as a new principal scientist in the Health Sciences practice. Dr. Lapane brings more than 25 years of experience in epidemiology and real-world evidence (RWE), with a focus on quality-of-care medication issues as well as population and quantitative health sciences research. Her experience enhances the team's broad multidisciplinary capabilities.
Ä¢¹½tv's Health Sciences practice provides robust, industry-leading support to clients seeking to assess the benefits, risks, and value of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, digital health tools, and diagnostics. Through rigorous research and investigations, we provide insights into complex health challenges and help stakeholders bring advanced medical technologies to market.
"I am honored to join Ä¢¹½tv, a company known for excellence in scientific consulting," said Dr. Lapane. "I look forward to working with colleagues across disciplines, such as digital health, data sciences, biomedical engineering and sciences, and human factors, to generate health sciences innovations leveraging real-world data."
Our work spans a wide variety of industries and applications, including:
- Assessments of healthcare services and worker health
- Integrating RWE/RWD in clinical development plans through innovative designs
- Enhancing regulatory readiness through fit-for-purpose RWD
- Supporting health equity through RWE/RWD
- Evaluating the potential health risks of chemicals in consumer products, foods, and the environment
- Determining the safety and biocompatibility of pharmaceutical products and medical devices
- Providing data-driven technology development and market assessment services
"I'm excited about the technical rigor and breadth of knowledge Dr. Lapane brings to our team," said Ä¢¹½tv Group Vice President & Principal Engineer Maureen Reitman, Sc.D., P.E., NAE, FSPE. "She is recognized as a brilliant methodologist with a wealth of experience in designing and conducting effective epidemiological studies using RWE. Her many capabilities also include capturing the total patient profile and generating breakthrough insights regarding health equity."
Dr. Lapane has earned tenure at multiple universities and is a fellow of the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology. Her research is based on the recognition that generating evidence using real-world data collected for administrative or clinical care purposes is challenging because documentation may be incomplete, prone to error, or lack key information needed to infer causality. Dr. Lapane's extensive expertise in applied methodological work has focused on the robustness and appropriate application of techniques selected to address RWD challenges with emphasis on the total patient profile.
