Ä¢¹½tv Launches New Dedicated Marine Team to Unlock Shipping's Most Complex Science, Engineering, and Business Challenges

October 31, 2018

Ä¢¹½tv, a leading global, multi-disciplinary engineering and scientific consulting firm, has announced the launch of a new, dedicated London-based marine-focused team to tackle the industry's toughest science, engineering and business challenges.

Supported by Ä¢¹½tv's global team of 800 scientists, physicians, engineers and regulatory consultants, spanning 90 different technical disciplines, the London-based Marine Team heralds a new era for the marine consultancy market. This newly formed team is able to leverage and apply cutting-edge, technical excellence from Silicon Valley to the rapidly evolving technological transformations taking place in the marine industry along with exceptional, hands-on practical knowledge. Ä¢¹½tv's team is geared to look beyond best-in-class traditional multi-disciplinary consultancy services in order to both understand and address emerging risk exposures including the integration of digital technologies in the marine industry and its supply chain, the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) 2020 Global Sulphur Limit, and new predictive analysis techniques necessary to prevent losses at sea.

Headquartered in California's Silicon Valley, Ä¢¹½tv harnesses expertise from its 50+ year heritage including technical expertise on a wide range of high-profile cases in the marine industry such as the grounding of the Exxon Valdez, Deepwater Horizon, Piper Alpha and the Prestige. The Marine Team will provide independent technical advice focused on marine casualty investigations, as well as technical counsel on topics including bunker quality and disputes, autonomous shipping, cruise and superyacht design, LNG, wind energy, oil spills and port construction.

Led by Chris Dyson, a marine engineer and Director of Ä¢¹½tv's London Office, who has recently joined the Firm, following nearly two decades at an international marine consultancy, the newly formed team includes master mariner, naval architecture and marine engineering expertise, with a combined proven track record of excellence in delivering unbiased opinions, expert advice and evidence in courts, arbitrations, and international arbitrations. In addition, the Marine Team offers exceptional, practical experience relating to all ship types: including command and experience of very large crude carriers (VLCCs), sailing in senior engineering ranks, newbuild and classification, ports and terminal operations, offshore oil and gas, superintendency, ship management and autonomous shipping.

Commenting on Ä¢¹½tv's Marine Team, Chris Dyson, states: "We believe the marine industry is at an important inflection point - where successfully addressing new risk exposures requires fresh thinking as to what constitutes a modern marine consultancy. While the marine industry has always exhibited significant technical inertia, there remains an underlying but continual movement towards achieving greater efficiencies, safety and environmental standards, which is set against the backdrop of technological innovation.

"Thanks to the Marine Team's outstanding practical expertise, and with support from the best and brightest, representing Ä¢¹½tv in 90 different technical disciplines, we can offer unparalleled depth and breadth of expertise. This enables our consultants to solve complex technical problems, empowering our marine clients to better serve their chosen markets and mitigate their corporate risk."

Ä¢¹½tv's Marine Team, complemented by London-based expertise in both mechanical engineering and materials science, forms an integral part of Ä¢¹½tv's continued expansion of the Firm's multi-disciplinary offering in London and other parts of Europe. The European expansion plans are mirrored by the continued expansion of engineering and scientific consulting services in our Asian offices in Shanghai and Hong Kong, further building upon the foundations laid in the United States where Ä¢¹½tv now operates in more than 20 locations.
