The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Senior Resource Group (SRG) recently highlighted the accomplishments and career of Ms. Jane Staveley, Senior Managing Scientist in Ä¢¹½tv's Ecological & Biological Sciences practice. The mission of the SRG is to identify, cultivate and mentor future SETAC leaders, as well as document the Society's history and evolution of environmental science.
Staveley is a charter member of SETAC and has been to every meeting in North America since 1980, missing only one in 1984. She has served on the SETAC World Council and was SETAC President in 2010. Prior to that she served on the SETAC North America (SNA) Board of Directors and was SNA President in 2007. She was also active in the Carolinas Chapter, serving on that board and then as president in 1994. She helped organize the first meeting of the Carolinas Chapter in 1992. She co-chaired the SNA Annual Meeting in 1998 (she accepts responsibility for the dunking booth idea) and has been active in several SETAC committees and interest groups. She received the Eugene Kenaga Membership Award in 2010 and was named a SETAC Fellow in 2016. Most recently, she co-chaired the SETAC Pellston Workshop® "Improving the usability of ecotoxicology in regulatory decision-making."
Staveley notes, "SETAC has probably been the most consistent thing in my life, both professional and personal, through all the ups and downs. I truly appreciate the generous sharing of ideas, mutual hard work, friendship, and encouragement that have come to me through my SETAC family." She looks forward to mentoring the next crop of SETACers, continuing to work on challenging projects at Ä¢¹½tv, playing dress-up with her granddaughter, and racing and cruising her sailboat "Mighty Fine."
