Dr. Young has over 30 years of experience examining issues related to human performance, human factors, biomechanics, and ergonomics in accidents, injuries, and safety. He has evaluated the human behavior and safety of operation for products manufactured in the automotive and other consumer-product industries and has studied factors that cause human error and accidents. His scientific expertise includes the analysis of human movement control, coordination, gait, loss of balance, injury assessment, performance in sports and recreational activities, and analysis of accident patterns, as well as reaction time, vision, and the operation of vehicles and machinery. His research examines effectiveness of warnings, safety information, operation of controls, biomechanics, and accident and injury analyses, as well as human error and its determinants, including movement control, information processing, perception, memory, attention, stress, aging, and training.
Dr. Young is a Professor Emeritus in Kinesiology at the California State University in Long Beach (CSULB). He has served as Director of University Research and chair of the Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects, and researcher with multi-year research grant awards sponsored by the National Institute of Health and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Dr. Young has received numerous awards for his scientific research and remains an active member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society and the Society of Automotive Engineers. In addition, he has served as a research consultant with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Long Beach, California, as a consultant with governmental emergency service agencies, including the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and Long Beach Fire Department, and as an expert with the Association of Scientific Advisors, Inc.
